How it works

Six steps from install to a private, encrypted symptom history, and back again on a new device.

  1. 1. Sign in

Open CrohnOlogy and sign in with your Google account. Access is restricted to authorised family members only. If your email isn't on the family list, you can't get in.

  2. 2. Create or join a family

The first parent sets up the family and chooses a Family Recovery Passphrase (at least 8 characters; a multi-word passphrase of 12–16+ characters is strongly recommended), which is backed up securely as the recovery path. Everyone else joins by scanning the Admin's QR code. A secure handshake brings the new device into the family. No passwords to share. Creating and joining both start by agreeing to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

  3. 3. Unlock with biometrics

Confirm with your face or fingerprint to unlock the encryption key. This happens once when you open the app; a short-lived session key then keeps things smooth for 120 seconds before you're asked again.

  4. 4. Log entries

From the Report screen, tap a large tile to log Food, Stool, Pain, Symptoms, Medication, or Measurements (weight and height) — or the new clinical tiles: Lab results (tick the markers the report carries, type the values, keep the encrypted photo alongside) and Clinical events (procedures, hospital stays, clinic visits). Entries are encrypted on the device and uploaded instantly. Need to back-date something? Adjust the entry time to when it actually happened — a lab draw can be logged on the day you get the report and still land on the draw date.

  5. 5. Review the timeline — and print it for the appointment

The Journal shows a colour-coded timeline of everything the family has logged. Today's entries appear live; older history loads as you scroll. The analytics view charts the last three months of bowel movements — scroll and zoom from a close-up week to a whole month, with night-time movements marked as they're logged — pre-set by the night windows your family sets for school nights and other nights — and clinic events and hospital stays marked where they happened, alongside a pain-and-symptom trend chart, your whole lab history for any marker, and your weekly summary. Tap any entry to view, edit, or correct it. When an appointment is coming, tap Print handout at the top of the analytics view: choose the charts, the date range and the lab tests, and the app prints — or saves as a PDF — a headed A4 handout with the patient's name and the covered dates on every page. The Admin sets the patient's name and date of birth once, in Family Settings.

  6. 6. Recover on a new phone

Lost or replaced your phone? Sign in on the new device and enter the Family Recovery Passphrase. CrohnOlogy securely recovers your key from the encrypted backup and restores full access to the family timeline.
