Terms of Service
Last Updated: 12 July 2026
By downloading, installing, or using CrohnOlogy ("the App"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Nature of the service
CrohnOlogy is a hobby project created and maintained by an individual developer (hello@crohnology.net). It is not a company, a registered business, or a commercial product. The App was built to meet a personal family need and is shared publicly to help other families managing gastrointestinal conditions.
The App is provided free of charge. There is no advertising, no subscription, and no sale of user data.
2. No warranty
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. The developer does not guarantee that:
- The App will be available at all times, or without interruption
- The App will be free of bugs, errors, or security vulnerabilities
- Any data stored via the App will be preserved permanently
- The App is fit for any particular purpose
You use the App at your own risk.
3. Not medical advice
CrohnOlogy is a symptom tracking tool. It records information that you enter so you can review patterns and share context with your healthcare providers.
The App does not:
- Diagnose any medical condition
- Treat, cure, or manage any disease
- Provide medical advice, recommendations, or interpretations
- Replace consultation with a qualified healthcare professional
Always seek advice from a qualified healthcare provider regarding any medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you have read or tracked in this App.
4. Not a regulated medical device
CrohnOlogy is not a medical device under UK MHRA regulation, nor is it connected to the NHS or any healthcare provider's systems. It does not process insurance claims.
While the app is designed to align with UK GDPR principles and the Privacy Policy addresses your data protection rights, it is a personal project, not a regulated health service. The security measures (zero-knowledge encryption, biometric authentication) are engineering decisions, not regulatory certifications.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the App, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or corruption of data
- Decisions made based on tracked information
- Any medical outcome, whether related to a condition tracked in the App or not
- Unauthorised access to your device or data
You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of any information you consider important, and for the security of your device (including biometric lock and passcode).
6. Your data
Your data is governed by the Privacy Policy. All health data is encrypted on your device before upload. The developer does not have access to your encryption keys and cannot decrypt your data.
You are responsible for remembering your Family Recovery Passphrase. If both the passphrase and admin re-invite access are lost, your data may become permanently inaccessible (though it remains encrypted and unreadable to everyone).
7. Changes to these terms
The developer may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
